Wales on their way to the 1958 World Cup finals

Wales beat Israel in a play-off to claim the final place at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. It remains the only World Cup finals at which Wales has played. After three drawn games in the Pool stages, Dave Bowen’s side played against Hungary in a play-off for a place in the quarter-finals. Despite going a goal down at the Rasunda Stadium, Solna, Wales won 2-1 to set-up a quarter final against Brazil. There were only 2,823 fans at the game against Hungary, which is the only game Wales won in Sweden.
