Jenks breaks world points reord

Neil Jenkins surpassed Aussie ace Michael Lynagh’s world points record mark of 911 during Wales’ 38-31 Rugby World Cup defeat to Samoa in Cardiff on Thursday, 14 October, 1999. Although Wales lost, they still reached the quarter-finals. That year also saw the former Pontypridd, Celtic Warriors and Cardiff Blues outside half become his country’s most capped player, overtaking Ieuan Evans on 72 caps. He also received the OBE in 1999 for his services to rugby. He eventually retired having scored 1090 test points in 91 internationals for Wales and the British & Irish Lions.
