Grand Slam ending for Edwards and Bennett
Two of Wales’ greatest players, Gareth Edwards and Phil Bennett, brought down the curtain on their incredible careers by steering their side to a Grand Slam win over France in Cardiff on Saturday, 18 March, 1978. Scrum half Edwards hung up his boots after playing 53 consecutive matches for his country and scoring a record 20 tries. Bennett, who led his side from the front with two tries and a conversion, ended with 166 points from his 29 matches for Wales. He scored a world record 210 international points with his 44 for the British & Irish Lions in eight consecutive Tests in 1974 and 1977.
