Geraint wins Tour de France

Sunday, 29 July, 2018, will go down as one of the greatest days in the history of Welsh sport. It is the day that Geraint Thomas was crowned the winner of the Tour de France after winning two stages and staying in the yellow jersey for 10 days. His victory in Paris went alongside two Olympic Team Pursuit gold medals in 2008 and 2012 and a Commonwealth Games road race triumph for Wales in 2014. His victory came 50 years on from the first appearance by a Welsh cyclist in cycling;s greatest road race. Colin Lewis, who rode in the 1964 Olympic Games, was the first Welshman to compete in the Tour de France as part of a 10 strong British team.
