Gary Speed

Having launched his career in the youth team at Leeds United, Gary Speed won the First Division Championship with the Elland Road club in 1991–92. He later played for Everton, Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United, making a then record 535 Premier League appearances. In all competitions he made 840 appearances.

He won 85 caps for Wales and captained the national team until he retired from international football in 2004. He was appointed manager of Sheffield United in 2010, but left the club after a few months to manage Wales, remaining in this role until his death 11 months later.
