Barry John

Barry John will go down as one of the greatest outside halves every to play for Wales or the British & Irish Lions. He was so good on the 1971 Lions tour to New Zealand that the local media christened him ‘The King’. He helped Wales win the Triple Crown in 1969 and the Grand Slam in 1971. He also toured South Africa with the 1968 Lions before he fractured his collar bone and had to return home mid tour.

He played 25 times for Wales between 1966-1972 and scored 90 points. He played in five Tests for the Lions, scoring 30 of their 48 points in the four games against the All Blacks in 1971. He began his first-class career at Llanelli and then moved to Cardiff. He also played for the Barbarians.
