Kathleen Thomas makes history with her Bristol Channel swim
The 21-year-old Penarth swimmer Kathleen Thomas made history on Tuesday, 5 September, 1927, when she became the first person to successfully swim across the Bristol Channel. The inaugural Welsh Ladies long distance swimming champion completed the 11 miles in 7 hours 20 minutes between Penarth and Weston-super-Mare.
