Don Shepherd

Rob Cole

Don Shepherd twice inspired Glamorgan to victories over Australia in the Sixties and bridged the gap between the 1948 and 1969 championship winning sides. He took more than 2,000 wickets for the Welsh county and passed 100 wickets in a season in 12 summers. He was one of the unluckiest cricketers never to play for England.

His total of 2,174 wickets in a 22-year career with the Welsh county is a record that is unlikely ever to be broken and his career total of 2,218 first-class wickets is the highest achieved by an England-qualified player never to play Test cricket. He was one of Wisden’s five cricketers of the year in 1970.

A full biography of Don Shepherd will appear here shortly.
