Winstone bows out

Howard Winstone announced his retirement from the ring on 24 July, 1968 after losing his WBC World Featherweight title to Cuban Jose Legra at Porthcawl’s Coney Beach Arena. It was the ‘Merthyr Marvel’s’ first defence of a title he won by beating Japan’s Mitsunori Seki at the Royal Albert Hall on 23 January, 1968.
