Rugby World Cup debut for Wales

Wales made their Rugby World Cup debut in Wellington on 25 May, 1987, against Ireland. They won the Pool 2 game 13-7 and went on to top the pool with three wins. That set-up a quarter-final against England, which they won. They were beaten by eventual champions New Zealand in the semi-finals before beating Australia to bag third place.
