Aboriginals play in Swansea

The first overseas cricket team to play in Wales were the Australian Aboriginals, who met Gentlemen of Swansea at Bryn-y-Mor Field on 6 and 7 July, 1868. Glamorgan CCC is born

Glamorgan County Cricket Club was formed on Friday, 6 July, 1888, at a meeting held at the Angel Hotel, Cardiff. The veteran Glamorganshire cricketer, Mr JTD Llewellym, convened the meeting, which was attended by members from the Cardiff, Neath, Penarth, Swansea, Merthyr, Llwwynypia and Taff Vale clubs. Glamorgan became a First Class county in 1921.

Howard Winstone announced his retirement from the ring on 24 July, 1968 after losing his WBC World Featherweight title to Cuban Jose Legra at Porthcawl’s Coney Beach Arena.
