Tasker makes history five years on
Bruce Tasker took over from Laura Deas as Wales’ first Winter Olympic medalist on Thursday, 28 March, 2019, when he was finally declared as a bronze medal winner as part of the Team GB four-man bobsleigh crew at the 2014 Sochi Games. Tasker and his team mates, John Jackson, Stuart Benson and Joel Fearon, originally finished fifth, just 0.11 seconds off third place. Two Russian sleds that finished ahead of them were ultimately disqualified for doping offences, allowing Tasker to overtake Deas as Wales’ first Winter Olympic medalist, albeit retrospectively. Deas won a skeleton bronze in 2018.
