Glover’s goals steer Wales to Home Nations title

Ernest Matthew ‘Pat’ Glover was born and died on 9 September. Born in Swansea in 1910, he died on his 61st birthday. He played in seven internationals for Wales and scored seven goals, five of which came in the 1936/37 Home Internationals Championships – the last time Wales won the title outright. Although he signed on for Swansea Town, he failed to make an appearance for them before joining Grimsby Town. He scored 180 goals in 227 games in a decade of service, steering them to the Second Division title with 42 goals in the 1933/34 season. His Wales debut came in 1931 and he made his final appearance in 1939.
