Terry Griffiths

Snooker - 2004

A former postman, Terry Griffiths won the World Snooker title in 1979 after coming through the qualifying stages and helped Wales win the World Cup twice. He won two more ranking tournaments in 1982 and was a semi-finalist at the World Championships again in 1988. He won 17 tournaments during his 19 years as a professional player before going on to become one of the games top coaches.

He won the Welsh Amateur title in 1975 and the English Amateur in successive years, 1977-78. He received the OBE in 1979.
