British record for intrepid Welshman at South Pole
Richard Parks broke his own British record for a solo expedition to the South Pole on 15 January, 2020. The 42-year-old former Pontypridd, Celtic Warriors, Perpignan, Dragons, Leeds Tykes and Wales flanker set-out from the Hercules Inlet on 17 December to try to break the world record for the 1150km journey along the geographical coastline of Antarctica to the South Pole. In the end, he had to settle for an improvement on his own British landmark as he covered the distance in 28 days, 21 hours and 59 minutes – taking almost a day off the previous record.
