Gwyn Nicholls
Gwyn Nicholls may have been born in England, but he became know as the ‘Prince of Wales’ of centres. He is a member oc the Cardiff RFC and World Rugby Halls of Fame. He played 242 games for Cardiff between 1892 and 1910, scoring 111 tries. He was captain of the club four times and led Wales in 10 of his 24 caps, most famously the win over New Zealand in 1905. He also went on the British & Irish Lions tour to Australia in 1899.
The Gwyn Nicholls Memorial Gates at the Arms Park were erected by public subscription as a tribute to him. His brother Syd Nicholls and his son Geoff Nicholls also played for Cardiff.
