
Kirsty Wade
The golden girl of Welsh athletics, she won three Commonwealth Games gold medals. She took the 800 metre title in Brisbane in 1982 and successfully defended her title in Edinburgh four years later, when she also completed the middle-distance double by taking the 1500 gold as well. She ran at the 1987 and 1991 World Championships and the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games. In 1985 she set a British record at 800 metres of 1:57.42 that stood for a decade and she also held the British mile record.
