Kelly Morgan is Wales’ most successful badminton player having scooped a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, reached a high of No 5 in the World Rankings, picked up silver and bronze medals at the European Championships and reached the last 16 at three Olympic Games.

On top of that she made more than 150 appearances for Wales and her dominance in Wales was such that she won 13 successive singles titles. To that total you can added a further nine doubles crowns between 1992-2004.

Her purple patch in 1998-199 included winning the Commonwealth title in Kuala Lumpur, finishing runner-up at the European Championships in Sophia and beating World No 1 Ye Zhaoying of China at the 1999 IBF World Championships.

Born in Pontypridd, she started playing badminton at the age of nine before she went to Bryn Celynnog School. She was voted Welsh Woman of the Year in 1999 and awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours List in 2002 for “services to the community, especially through Sport, in South Wales”.

Having retired from professional badminton in 2006, Kelly moved into teaching and then nursery development, successfully launching and building a franchise business across British International schools in Dubai. In October, 2017, she became the Head of Operations at Welsh Badminton.
